Afrikanska barn - afrikanska gruppledare - fokus på Afrika
Watoto är ett ord på Swahili som betyder barn. Vi valde detta namn eftersom detta projekt fokuserar på våra barn; de afrikanska barnen. I denna benämningen ingår barn som har sitt ursprung i den afrikanska diasporan.
Vad är Watoto Malmö?
Idéen bakom Watoto är simpel, Watoto är en plats för barn av afrikanskt ursprung där fokus ligger på afrikaner, den afrikanska kontinenten och dess diaspora.
När man som barn med afrikanskt ursprung växer upp i Sverige så saknar man ofta människor som ser ut som en själv och delar ens bakgrund som förebilder i form av tex lärare, därför är alla gruppledare i Watoto tjejer och killar med afrikanskt ursprung (läs mer om våra gruppledare här). Afrika är också en kontinent som nämns mycket sparsamt och i varierande utsträckning i förskolan och grundskolan, Watoto ämnar att vara ett komplement till detta genom att bara fokusera på den afrikanska kontinenten och afrikaner. Här får barnen också träffa andra barn som ser ut som en själv och kanske delar vissa av de upplevelser barnen har.
Watoto är en plats där barnen kan utöka sin afrikanska identitet och bygga på sin självkänsla. Här betonar vi på allas lika värde och ger alla barn plats att få vara med. Alla barn ska känna sig sedda och trygga när de är på Watoto.
All verksamhet kommer att bedrivas på svenska.
Varför ska ditt barn delta hos Watoto?
Detta är ett sätt för ditt barn att stärka sin afrikanska identitet samt lära sig mer om den afrikanska kontinenten. Genom att prata om de olika länder som representeras i gruppen kommer ditt barn lära sig mer om sitt eget land såväl som andra länder i Afrika. Denna verksamhet är passande för barn med två eller en föräldrer från ett afrikanskt land såväl som adopterade barn utan föräldrar från ett afrikanskt land (adopterade från ett afrikanskt land).
Kostar det något?
Watoto är helt kostnadsfritt då vi anser att inget barn ska missa chansen till att vara med.
På Watoto ingår också fika kostnadsfritt till barnen.
I december 2012 erhöll vi Stenbecksstipendiet för att ha möjligheten att starta upp verksamheten.

As a child of African descent growing up in Sweden you often lack people that resemble oneself and share a similar background when it comes to school teaches, for this reason all the group leaders in Watoto are people of African descent (read more about our group leaders here). Africa is a continent that gets mentioned very scarcely and in a varied amount in preschool and school. Watoto aims to complement this by only focusing on Africa and Africans. Here the children get to meet others that look like them and maybe share the same experiences as them.
Watoto is a place where the children can expand their African identity and build their self-esteem. Here we focus on that everyone has the same worth and all the children get to take part of the activities. AAll the children are seen and can feel safe at Watoto.
All the activities will be held in Swedish.
Why should your child be a part of Watoto?
